Annual herb, twining, prostrate or sprawling, with spreading hispid axial parts. Stem 0.5-3 m with hispid-patent hairs. Leaves alternate, simple; petioles 2-8 cm long with patent hispid hairs; leaf blade orbicular to transversely elliptic in outline, 2-10 cm long, often wider than long, palmately deeply divided, segments/ lobes (3-) 5-7 (-9), elliptic or oblong, tapered at both ends, sinuses rounded, both surfaces pubescent with appressed or patent trichomes, apex mucronate. Inflorescence axillary, involucrate cymose, few-flowered, pedunculate, peduncle 4-11 cm, densely pubescent with patent trichomes; involucral bracts hirsute in basal part but appressed pubescent in upper part, oblong to linear-oblong, 1.8-2.5 cm x 0.6-1.2 cm, outer bracts larger than the inner ones. Flowers actinomorphic, bisexual, 5-merous, hypogynous. Pedicels obsolete. Sepals 5, free, 1-1.4 cm x 4-5 mm (in fruits sepals large, 1.5-1.7 cm x ca. 7 mm), slightly unequal, lanceolate or ovate-lanceolate, hirsute on both sides. Corolla funnelform, white or light pink, 2.8-3 cm long and across, midpetaline bands sparsely pubescent, limb ca. 3 cm across, distinctly 5-lobed, lobes broad and emarginate. Stamens 5, included; filaments glabrous, unequal, 5.5-7 mm long, glandular hairy at base at point of adnation; anthers ca. 1.5 mm long, ovate-oblong, dehiscence longitudinal. Pistil included, ovary ca. 1 mm x 1 mm, 2-locular, 2 ovules per loculus, glabrous; style filiform, ca. 1 cm long; stigma capitate, bilobed. Fruit a capsule, ovoid, 5-9 mm long, glabrous, opening by 4 valves, usually 4-seeded. Seeds ca. 4 mm long, ellipsoid, grey tomentellous.
